Shireen Abu Akleh, a dual Palestinian American national, was shot and killed on May 11 while she was reporting on an Israeli Defense Forces raid in the Palestinian West Bank city of Jenin. On September 5, Israel released an investigation into the killing of Abu Akleh. The IDF identified the soldier who “likely fired the shot [and said] it was a mistake and he is sorry for it.” The Abu Akleh family responded to the Israeli investigation, saying that the report leaves them feeling “deeply hurt, frustrated, and disappointed.”
