This rug design was crafted by the incredibly talented interdisciplinary artist, @arielletwist, and her words remind us that Bad Indians make Good Relatives. Artist Statement: "Good Relatives to me is being able to acknowledge and appreciate different family dynamics and chosen family as valid and viable ways of living and loving community. I think that our idea of the traditional family is one built and upheld by colonialism and something we can move away from when talking about the ability to have and create a family. A biological mother is not the only way to be a mother, a traditional family is not the only way to have a family. Transness, Queerness and so many other factors go into the ability to have a child but not the ability to have a family, and in that I want to believe that if we are the BAD INDIANS for not being able to or want to have children, that we still make damn good relatives." #GoodRelatives #BadIndians #TwoSpirit #2SLGBTQIA
