After a morning brief in San Juan, headed out to Orocovis in central #PuertoRico to survey the mudslide & landslide damage from #HurricaneFiona. Led by Governor pedropierluisi & Homeland Security Committee colleague @repvaldemings we saw massive damage to the infrastructure in Orocovis. These rural areas have been hit hard. So many families & communities cut-off & emergency services lack easy access to these areas. We saw entire roadways completely wiped out - as well as the hillsides underneath. While on the ground, spoke with Bob Little, Fed’l Coordinating Officer from @dhsgov @fema who’s on the ground here to help oversee & coordinate fed’l response. Then headed over to Barranquitas with @hispanic.caucus colleague @repdarrensoto to meet w/ the community there impacted by the hurricane & to help hand out hygiene supplies. We finished the day in Ponce, one of the hardest hit areas, & met with residents who are still without electricity. While we’re only several days out from the hurricane, the work has begun in Puerto Rico to repair & rebuild their critical infrastructure & to get the electricity back on across the island. Federal gov’t must step up and provide all resources necessary to repair & rebuild Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷🇺🇸
