As a content creator here in Chicago, I am invited to several events and shows throughout the city, often with fun/exclusive perks. While I am beyond grateful for being included in these events; unfortunately, at the majority of them, I am either: A) The only black woman/woman of color/person of color B) One of very few black women/women of color/people of color that were invited. Over time, I became fed up with arriving at events, looking around, and seeing no one that looked like me, or again- very few. There are so many incredible creators of color in the city, and they not only deserve to be included in these events/experiences, their talent alone more than warrants their inclusion. So I decided to do something about it. My goal with this Tea Party was to curate a fun, insta-worthy space for black creators where they felt welcomed and included - in addition to creating a space for them to network and collaborate with other creators in the city. This of course while getting dressed up, having tea and creating killer content surrounding the event! In attendance were over 20 black content creators and they showed up and were DRESSED honey! πŸ«–πŸ‘ΈπŸ½ I also had a number of incredible #BlackOwned businesses and other local vendors that were able to display their expertise and network in a room full of content creators and other business owners. More details on each of them to come, but I cannot thank them enough for making the event what it was! πŸ™ŒπŸ½ I couldn’t be happier with how the event turned out. I want to continue spread awareness about the amazing creators of color in this beautiful city and encourage change in the industry. More events to come!
