I’ll be pacing @slukenelson at the iconic @hardrock100run tomorrow here in the San Juans. Thinking a lot about the last time I was here when Luke paced me to a second place finish behind the incomparable @kilianjornet. The three of us spent hours running through the night together that year and I still laugh remembering a moment when Luke (reminder: my pacer) and Kilian got to chatting and both dropped me on the climb out of telluride as I was in a low patch. They realized the gap and graciously waited up for me. Then Luke pressured me into eating approx. 8-10 gels in the next hour, which was hard to stomach but brought me back from the dead, though to no one’s surprise, not enough to keep up with Kilian, who ran away from us the last ten miles with his arm in a sling from dislocating it earlier in the race. What a legend. Anyways, I’m looking forward to returning the favor for Luke this year and be a small part of this gathering. It’s a special group of people in a special place working together to accomplish something extraordinary. I love it.
