The Ba Bao Zhou gallery exhibit at @abronsartscenter came down on Monday, marking the official end of my 2022 @wowprojectnyc residency. 🥹 I don’t know why I thought I wouldn’t have a bunch of feelings about it, but here I am! It all happened so quickly - installation just 2 days before the showcase event on 7/16, a whirlwind 24 hours getting ready for the event, a whirlwind event itself, followed by a flurry of activity that I’m still catching up on. 🥵 Amidst the chaos, it dawned on me that this was probably... my first ever solo gallery exhibit as an artist? 😨 Which is a big deal, right?? Especially for someone who didn’t think she would ever get to call herself an artist? Yet my memory and reflections on this experience so far have had little to do with my work. 🤔 Perhaps I’ll process this part later. I just keep thinking about all the wonderful moments AROUND putting the work in the gallery - 🤞🏽Me running around the city to thrift the perfect frames for @junebugkim’s photos 🫶🏼 @dyzhou expertly maneuvering Gary Lum’s van through the streets of Chinatown/LES, piled high with tchotchkes in bubble wrap 💪🏽 @meilum dragging around two giant porcelain vases in between provisioning peanut noodles and durian popsicles 👏🏽 @joann_lee and @normal_martin saving our butts with their installation expertise 🙌🏽 @tiffahy @cocoro.kita and @angelaccai learning how to spackle and sand the gallery walls These are the moments that I want to remember. 🥹💞
