Ty @nangoldinstudio for your leadership & courage #Repost @nangoldinstudio ・・・ Yesterday, myself and 26 other claimants finally had the opportunity to share our stories directly with the Sacklers and to the corrupt court presiding over the Purdue Pharma bankruptcy. Mothers spoke of their children being born addicted to Oxy: “If you have ever heard the screams of a newborn in withdrawal they will haunt you for the rest of your life.” Others shared chilling recollections of how they discovered family members dead from overdose. One couple was even brave enough to share audio of the 911 call they made upon finding their lifeless son - hearing their cries for help is something I will never forget. Unsurprisingly, Theresa and David Sackler sat there expressionless, while Richard Sackler lacked the decency to even have his camera turned on. When the testimonies were over, Judge Drain promptly exited his chambers without comment and the slam of his door was the end of our zoom hearing. It is shameful that in the two and a half years of this case, only 26 of us were able to speak over 2 hours. This is not justice. I was told to reign in my testimony and use more sanitized language as a condition of speaking. I’m thankful that others went at them full steam. Many brave individuals expressed the anger and vitriol which I feel as much as any. I, along with my group @sacklerpain , are grateful to have helped create a cultural shift in how this country views this evil family and their funding of our cultural institutions. Slowly, their name is coming down. But cultural accountability is not enough. I’m now asking for criminal charges against the Sacklers from our department of justice. You don’t get to hide behind your company in court and then claim you weren’t the ones steering this ship. America has suffered unimaginable loss due to this family’s greed for over 20 years - and will continue to do so long into the future. It’s time. Damn them all.
