Here’s a new mugshot and with that I thought I’d do a re-intro that no one asked for...
Hi! I’m kris. I’ve been living with secondary metastatic breast cancer since 2009 (diagnosed de novo) with spread to bones (from start), liver (since 2011) and brain (first lesion in 2012, over 60 in total since then). I’ve dabbled with all manner of treatments. Won’t bore you with that (I have a website and blog for that).
I’m the founder of breast cancer education charity CoppaFeel! but I’m no longer at the helm - there’s a badass team of almost 30 women in london who steer the ship now.
I live in Cornwall with my rescue cat, Lady Marmalade, and I’m one of those weirdos that likes going in cold water. I am an identical twin. I feel sorry for anyone who isn’t a twin.
I’m here to show you what it *can* be like living with cancer for a really long time and maybe offer up some hope. But this disease is unique to everyone and no two stories are ever the same. I hope you agree that that is both scary and great. If you talk to me long enough I will also start banging on about death and dying and hospice care and the need to rebrand palliative care. I even trained as a death doula but don’t plan to be one.
In 2021 I published a book called Glittering a Turd which essentially details (then) 11 years with cancer, how/why I set up CoppaFeel!, and the before cancer bits too. It became a Sunday Times Bestseller and I’ve yet to receive a congratulatory letter from my secondary school English teacher, Mr Tabor 🤷🏼♀️
I’m gonna round this off with an obligatory “check your chest” CTA and remind you that even the most turdiest turds are often glitterable.
Welcome. Stick around. I make a very good cup of tea (that’s a lie, I rarely have milk or even tea bags in so maybe bring your own).
(I share more details and health updates (and cat gifs) on my Patreon.)
