WORLD MENOPAUSE DAY and this year the theme is cognition and mood. We do require more investment and research for something that affects 50% of the world’s population! *** When you go through menopause, you may be affected by all sorts of side effects including increased anxiety, irritability, brain fog, issues with cognition and concentration, memory loss and more. But we also know that food can affect mood - please do look at @proffelicejacka work at the Food and Mood centre. During perimenopause and menopause, oestrogen levels decline in the brain - @dr_mosconi shows this in her research, and this impacts not only our brain health but our mood and mental health too. *** There has been lots of interesting research this year showing that the gut microbiome changes in Menopause, and as there is a link between the gut and the brain, this could be a way of supporting our brain through menopause. @zoe released some fascinating research today looking at these changes and how eating a high fibre diet could benefit us when going through menopause. The Mediterranean diet pattern is a high fibre diet and research in 2018 shared how it can delay the onset of menopause. I’ll be sharing more about this here but do check out @healthywholeme podcast on menopause after cancer. *** May menopause be more researched and people going through menopause be more supported! . . . #worldmenopauseday #worldmenopauseday2022 #gutmicrobiome #gutbrainconnection #gutbrainaxis #lifestylemedicine #integrativemedicine #womenshealthresearch #womenshealth #foodandmood #cognition #healthylifestyle #menopause #menopausesupport #menopausehealth
