When art meets science 💫 Ecological artist Thijs Biersteker has created a robotic plant, driven by biodiversity data, that grows and wilts with the state of nature 🌱 Moving like a seedling, the robotic plant grows not with the help of nutrients, but driven by changes in the biodiversity of certain regions. The plantanoid work visualises two future worlds we all have a stake in choosing. If a place is predicted to increase its biodiversity, the plant grows stronger, but conversely if it is declining the plant will shrink. The piece of art uses data taken from the Museum's Biodiversity Intactness Index. This is a measure of how much biodiversity is left in any one place, and is helping scientist and policy makers understand past, current and future changes.
