This week, Paul Maheke @paulmaheke presents the US premiere of his performance "A fire circle for a public hearing" at @highlineartnyc Initially co-commissioned by @chisenhalegallery and @vleeshal, the work engages with different histories and characters channeled by three performers as if temporarily possessed by ghostly entities. Their movements and dialogue explore the tension between erasure and hypervisibility as they play out in historical marginalisation. His works explore the ways that bodies can act as archives of history and personal experience. "A fire circle for a public hearing" develops Maheke's ongoing engagement with the potential of the body as an archive addressing how history, memory, and identity are formed.
