41. Grateful to be alive and weird and free and surrounded by ancestral love and magic. July 9th is me and June Jordan’s solar return and I am always grateful for her limitless example of wildness and sweetness. I let myself be held and loved by beloveds. Cleaned my office and altar. Went on a bike ride and got a massage and went on a date with wifey. I let it be mellow and nourishing and it was just riiiigght! Today, I taught an embodied writing class with @embodiedastrology about all that is juicy and free and wild about cancerian energy. It was magical and funnnnn! There are so many amazing black feminist cancerians we reflected on from Octavia Butler to Missy Elliot to Lucille Clifton to Solange to Lil Kim to Fantasia. Each of them are so vast and emo and deep and lush. We looked at the cancerian placements in our charts and everybody reflected on what cancerian energy has to teach them. And then we did some magical writing inspired by the speculative realms and the erotic that aligns with the watery moon-y/moody sign. We watched Missy’s “supa dupa fly” video and an interview from Octavia. We listened to Solange and honored her fierce free spirit. Someone read from Lucille Clifton’s poetry of channeling divine spirit and ancestors. I rapped some of Lil Kim’s freaky and bold lyrics. I lifted up my ancestral cancerian family my grandpa, Kelvin Richards and soul brothers Bill Cottman (the king of presence) and Andrew Thomas (his laughter). I opened up June Jordan’s book and out came Andrew’s funeral program and a yellow paper with my family tree. Thank you life for holding me and seeing me in my watery soulfulness.
