LOCK EVERY DOOR 🔑 review 🔑 “This perfect apartment with its perfect views inside a perfect building. It was all designed to be as enticing as possible to someone like me, who started out poor and stayed that way.“ I am so torn on how to rate this one. It started out really strong, then started to drag a bit in the middle. BUT! That ending was👌🏻 superb. This book is very subtly creepy. It starts with talk of how the Bartholomew is “haunted by its history.” And the seemingly innocuous way residents say “things have been *mostly quiet around here.” Or, “The Bartholomew is *generally a pretty happy place.” But then it devolves into a string of missing apartment sitters, who seemingly moved out in the middle of the night. The story begins with Jules waking up in the hospital after being hit by a car and her scared plea, “please don’t send me back there.” And then we go back 6 six days earlier. So while the story only takes place over 6 days, it feels like much longer. I will say Riley Sager is such a great writer that he kept me hooked. But at one point I realized I was about 60% through and still not much had happened.. 🤔 So this is definitely a slow burn thriller. But you keep reading because you’re like if everything could disintegrate and turn from a dream job into a nightmare in only 6 days then it must be *really bad. The truly terrifying element for me was that Jules knows something is wrong. She hasn’t put the whole mystery together, but she knows enough that she has to leave but realizes she has no money, no family, and nowhere to go. What really stuck with me is how Ingrid’s disappearance reminds Jules of her sister, Jane. And because her family eventually stopped looking for Jane and they still have no answers, Jules is determined to not let the same fate come to Ingrid. This book kind of reminds me of a scarier version of Only Murders in the Building 🤣 While I guessed one or two elements of the mystery I did not see that ending coming and I loved the twist. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 Have you read LED?
