Document. Winter 2021. Reimagining our relationship to land, working with an unincorporated off grid city, deep in the Sonoran Desert, California. Slab city is a community in the California desert which refutes the idea of land ownership. It is a sanctuary to many, who can park their RV or pitch their tent without the need to pay rent. A place where the houseless are no longer homeless. Dot arrived at The Slabs almost three years ago for free camping and "found a home and their tribe of fellow artists.” On my last day, Dot invited me to lunch at their home, which had the most beautiful endless view of the desert and surrounding mountains.
