@ana.duriana.fr in Paris for @liberationfr
It’s been a year that I pitched to the Guardian a series of portraits of ESEA women, in the midst of a pandemic and rise of asian hate. I was angry and frustrated by the racist events towards our Asian community, its stigmatisation and moreover its lack of representation. Being able to portray Asian women and talk about these issues was the start of an ongoing work and process on representing and celebrating us, Asian people. I am even more grateful today to continue this project for French newspaper Libération. Merci Libé, first time I see this issue discussed properly in French news. Proud to say I am French and the daughter of Chinese immigrants parents from Vietnam, proud to grow up in the suburbs of Paris and being educated by parents who started from nothing but kept fighting to give their kids a chance to succeed.
Thank you to the women, friends and family I met and photographed in France @alyssia_lou @ryokosekiguchi @chchchen @chueva @cindylicy @linhlandao @ana.duriana.fr @celine_pham_ Henriette @lindanguon @mai_hua
Thank you @laystary for giving them a voice and putting in such right words what needed to be heard especially in our country
And thank you @liberationfr for supporting this project from the first day I contacted you @l.troussiere @alessandro_zuffi_photoeditor @marieottavi_
