I feel so fortunate to have a mother who inspires me every day. Her story is as tragic as it is admirable and I feel so lucky to have her in my life. She wasn’t so fortunate - she was orphaned at the age of 11. My grandmother died of blood poisoning due to an abortion as it was illegal at the time and my young mother had to see her die in front of her with no one willing to help as she was considered a criminal. We all need to fight now more than ever for women to have the right to choose and to not go backwards to draconian laws criminalizing women. After my grandmother died, my mother went on to win scholarships to college and law school (a national merit scholar) and has been fighting for the rights of the less fortunate including immigrants and victims of rape and abuse for more than 50 years. She continues to litigate to this day. She is Licensed in California, New York, Massachusetts, Texas, South Dakota, and Iowa. A Graduate of the University of Chicago Law School (one of the only women in her class!). she is admitted to U.S. Court of Appeal, Ninth & Eight Circuits; U.S. District Court of Eastern and Southern Districts of California; U.S. District Court of Western District of Texas; US Tax Court; and US Bankruptcy Courts of Eastern and Southern Districts of California; and Board of Immigration of Appeals. ✨✨✨✨ Happy Mother’s Day mom!!!! You are my inspiration! I also want to also dedicate this day to my grandmother who I never met but I think about every day.
