TODAY is my 25th Deltaversary y’all! While I have literally been working hard all day, I simply could not let this day come to an end without: 1) Publicly expressing how grateful I am to be a DELTA woman, and to have the best line sisters there are, and to have been “MADE” properly by the best prophytes ever! These ladies cheer for me, push me, and lift me! They truly make me a better human, and I love them for life! 2) Also sharing some personal NEWS—because it’s now public. About a year ago, I was called to public service again. Considering the “who” and “what” I did not hesitate at all to say YES, but as you can imagine timing is truly everything. That time has come, and.............. I serve as the “Senior Advisor for Racial Equity” TO Madam Secretary Marcia L. Fudge “and” I have made history as the FIRST person to ever serve in this capacity in the agency’s 56 year history “and” I am the FIRST Black woman in the federal government to ever serve as a senior “racial” equity advisor to a secretary—who is also a Black woman who has always and still gets it! The alignment alone y’all!!!!! Secretary Fudge is a fellow lifelong racial and gender equity champion, and has entrusted me (a little girl turned woman from ‘round the way) to intentionally examine and evaluate the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) policies & practices, and conduct the critically important historical analysis needed to govern in a way that prioritizes and truly advances racial equity.
