WEIGHT TRAINING... WHY START?💪🏼 As some of you may know, weight training is a huge part of my life Around 3 years ago, I was stuck in a rut of not exercising and not taking any care in what I put in my body. I took a leap of faith, and dedicated myself to lifting weights. I learnt so much about nutrition too, and honestly, it’s changed my life in so many ways. Every time I speak to someone who is in the same position I was several years ago, I tell them to go lift some weight. They always look confused... they assume by lifting weights they are going to get ‘big’ and ‘bulky’, and instead they’d rather just ‘tone up’. The truth of that is... NONE. There is no truth to that whatsoever. In fact, toning is a complete myth too. Lifting weights will not make you bulky, and not only that, but its benefits are incredible:
-improves your posture
-reduces your risk of injury in everyday life
-improves your cardiovascular fitness. Believe it or not, my heart rate can increase more than when I am training cardio.
-improves your strength and endurance (an obvious one)
-it boosts your confidence (!!! I can vouch for this!!)
-can aid in bone health and reduce risk of bone disorders such as osteoporosis
-one of the most efficient ways to burn calories
-increased muscle mass = faster metabolism. I can eat pretty much whatever I want and my body will not change.
-resistance training has been shown to improve brain health
-and lastly, for me, day to day life is just EASIER! Carrying things is easier, running for the bus is easier. Carrying my 2 giant cats up the stairs is easy. Everything is just easier.
I also get asked a lot... “how do you stay motivated? I just can’t seem to stick to a routine”. The truth is, I don’t. I’m not always motivated all the time. No one is. I’m not superhuman. My non-negotiable in my week is training at least 3 times. No matter how unmotivated I feel, I still go. There has not been one week in my 3 years that I haven’t trained at least 3 times (unless I am unwell). We should all be aiming to exercise a few times a week if we can! 3 hours a week is not a lot of time to give up. And I ALWAYS thank myself after my session.❤️❤️❤️
