This is not a lychee. It’s a rambutan. While the interior of this ‘hairy’ fruit is a juicy, delicious snack, the peel is usually discarded. As part of our materials research project Pieces of Home, Bertín López looked for ways to transform the agricultural waste into functional objects for the home. Once deconstructed, the peel’s fibre bonds allow the material to be reconstructed without additives, making this process unique.
