A step code is a type of building code that sets out a series of performance levels for new construction projects in terms of energy efficiency. It’s designed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make buildings more sustainable. There are several steps, or levels, in the code, with each step representing a higher level of energy efficiency. In general, buildings constructed to a higher step code will use less energy, have lower operating costs, and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
