Barbara Walters, her sage advice built my business. Barbara is revered as by so many as powerful woman who paved the way for so many other women to follow. But in my experience, Barbara’s true gift was her ability to size up people and their circumstance. Let me give you a personal and powerful example... Right after I sold my real estate brokerage firm on the heels of 9/11, I was invited to be a a guest on The View. Barbara Walters was still at the helm. I was there talking about the shaky real estate market, which I knew very well. Right after the show, Barbara pulled me aside and asked, “So, I’m curious. Now that you sold your big brokerage company, what ARE you going to do?” “I’m going to reinvent myself as a TV expert! But an expert on anything except real estate because I’ve done it my whole life and I’m just tired of it!” Barbara looked straight through me and replied, “Well, I think you’ll find out how much you care about real estate, the moment someone else climbs your tree and steals it!” I recognized the life truth in her sage advice and I went on to build my new career as a real estate expert on TV, until Shark Tank came knocking five years later. I would have never gotten there without Barbara’s advice. I’m eternally grateful for having met that wise soul and mistakenly thought I could always go back and ask if I ever needed her advice again. I’ve tried to ‘pass it forward’ by way of giving others sage advice but it’s hard to measure up to Barbara Walters. ❤️
