Chef Prepared Your Usual
Disclaimer: I can talk about aging all day. Had a site called GoOldHead.com back in the stone age (2000s). Now look at me, in my mid 30s and writing about dinner parties. No one has figured out how to get old but some have come close (see: Nas). And no one in the history of humankind knows 100% what happens when you die. We’re all just guessing. I spend a lot of time thinking about my own mortality and where I’m at currently. But boom check it—here’s my theory:
I believe the ideal clubbing age is 18 to 34. By 35 to 54, there should be a natural gravitation to restaurants and vacations. “I know the door girl” vs “I know the chef.” The intimacy of restaurants provides better conversations and strengthens more meaningful relationships. Throw house parties (Happy Birthday Austin) and vacations into the 35+ bracket as well. As a man, things shift from eligible bachelor to creepy old guy real fast. “Don’t he got a family?”
Now all this is coming from a longtime club rat. Lotus. Marquee. Poppy. E11EVEN (sheesh). Santos (does that count?). LIV. Guesthouse. WIP. Toxic (yikes lol). Story. Bootsy’s. Avenue. 1 Oak. I loved them all but they never loved me back.
Not sure what you do after 55+. Hire private chefs? Yachts? Carnivals? Ibiza? My friend Isabel says “maybe after 55 you can go back to the club. It’s no longer creepy, just funny and even endearing.” There are really no rules or timeline to any of this. Just a thought behind these blurry photos. So if you see me at Little Sister next week, just mind your business.
