The Social Science & Medicine journal has released a new study indicating that people born from the mid-1990s to the mid-2010s are less likely to participate in risky behaviors than older generations.
Aside from drinking and smoking, the study highlights other risky behaviors that are in decline for the younger generation including early sexual initiation and juvenile crime. According to the study, factors such as lack of interest, decreased physical abuse towards adolescents, increased school pressure, and declining in-person social interactions all contribute to Gen Z’s unwillingness to partake in risky behaviors.
In addition to the previously mentioned, laws surrounding alcohol and drug use have become more strict in recent years. Gaining access to these substances at a young age is much harder than it used to be.
While it’s unclear if these young adults will continue these less risky habits through their lifespan, it's safe to say that the younger crowd prefers their bed over the bar.
Do you think future generations will continue this trend?
