Sweet sweet Brooklyn, I love you! Sweet sweet @thefreeblackwomenslibrary I am so obsessed with your magical existence and all of the sweetness you hold for Black Femme literary feeeeels! In July I did an event at the Free Black Women’s library and it gave me so much healing and inspiration. I came to Brooklyn when my book first came out in the fall of 2019 And at that time it was new and no one had read it yet. @thefreeblackwomenslibrary and @alexisdeveaux did that event with me and it was very sacred to be held in their wildness and love. And then we went into a pandemic and all of my interactions around my book was on zoom which was definitely bittersweet😭. The sweetness was in that I got to connect with people all over the country and world in ways that were accessible to so many readers. But y’all. getting to be in a room with people who have snuggled my book and dog-eared it and annotated it and want me to sign it is everything! People who know my characters and love them warmed my heart so deeply in a way that inspires and motivates me to write more. The “ambiguous loss” of these almost 3 years of having my book in the world and myself in a cave of feels, have felt like an underground burrowing in some long delayed healing that my soul needed. I am so grateful to this book and all of the ways it has connected me with a constellation of beautiful people who feel connected to reflections of spirituality, wildness, healing, nature, Sensuality, pleasure, and ancestral communications. Even though I wrote it, in so many ways it has written me. And over and over invites me to come back to myself and be tender and true. I am so grateful to all of the people who show me and this book love. It warms me in ways you can’t even begin to understand. Thank you Ola for holding me down in so many ways!
