At 71 degrees north, the January sun never fully crests over Norway’s arctic fjords, casting the high noon sky in a twilight glow. Each year, billions of herring flood into the coastal inlets and channels around Lofoten with up to 2,000 hungry orcas on their tail. The pods rely on the abundance of fish to sustain themselves through the cold winters, just as their kin around the world hunt seals or salmon.
