I’ve been on teams my whole life. Soccer. Trading floor. Business school. You work hard to help the people around you; together you can do more and go further. My mom asks me a lot “wouldn’t you rather be on a team?” This cycling privateer thing on the surface seems very individualistic, but in reality it’s not. I may be out there racing “alone”, but there’s a whole team behind me that allows me to do what I do. The friends I train with who push me to be faster. The brands who support my race dreams and (hopefully) enjoy being associated with an energetic orange blur. My athlete manager who keeps that energetic orange blur in line. My coach who forces me to rest. The mechanics that help when I show up in a panic or don’t laugh when I can’t fix something very simple. The other riders around me in a race as we work to catch those in front of us. Also, mom, if you haven’t noticed, you’re a huge part of my team!
