Today on International Overdose Awareness Day, we joined advocates from across New York State in remembrance of all those we have lost to the Drug War and to demand Overdose Prevention Centers be implemented statewide. There is a bill sitting on Governor Kathy Hochul’s desk, ready for signature, that would do just that. Since the first ever sanctioned OPC sites opened in NYC in November 2021, there have been over 400 overdoses reversed. Imagine how many more lives could be saved if there were centers like this all over the state? The country? Participants who enter these sites are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve and are offered health services that they otherwise do not have access to. By stalling on this issue, politicians in America play games with peoples lives. This is state violence. With 15 New Yorkers dying each day, this is needed now more than ever. #EndOverdoseNY #IOAD2022
