LA County Fire Department (LACOFD) Assistant Chief Drew Smith and LACOFD Community Services Liaison Megan Currier gave a presentation to the City Council about the County's new officially established disaster response and evacuation zones and the Zonehaven Aware mapping tool on November 28. Watch the presentation: https://youtu.be/RzkcKaGQ1PY?t=2688 (clips starts at 44:48). The Zonehaven Aware online platform has an interactive map showing the evacuation zones, which in the Malibu area are the same as the evacuation zones (11-14) established by the City in 2019. In case of a Zonehaven Aware shows emergency and weather information, road closures, shelter locations, and evacuation information in multiple languages for each zone. There is also a button to allow you to easily sign up for emergency alerts from Los Angeles County Departments at https://ready.lacounty.gov/emergency-notifications. During a disaster or wildfire when evacuations are in effect, the LACOFD and other agencies will refer to those zones in alerts and public messaging. The platform also has special features to enable people with vision or hearing impairments or other Access and Functional Needs to use it. Learn more about the zones and look up the zones for your home, business, school or other places in Malibu that you frequent at: https://community.zonehaven.com.
