Yesterday afternoon I found myself standing directly in front of Engine 55’s door with Claire in her stroller, just as a call came in. Claire observed the men & women firefighters suiting up and getting the engine out. It was a moment to show her the true hero’s of the city, New York’s bravest—and to always respect and honor those men and women who put their lives on the line to keep this treasured community safe. “On September 11, 2001, Engine 55 firefighters raced to the wreckage of the World Trade Center. Among the thousands of lives lost that day, five of them belonged to Engine 55: Lt. Freund, firefighters Faustino Apostol, Stephen Russell, Robert Lane, and Christopher Mozzillo.” Actor Steve Buscemi, returned to his post at 55 on 9/11 to aid in rescue efforts.
