Gratitude does not replace hard feelings. It holds space for them and allows for multiple emotions to co-exist. You can be grateful and hold space for the hard. It’s okay to express hard feelings without negating them with a “but” or “at least.” All feelings are welcome and valid. Hard feelings don’t negate gratitude. When we acknowledge things we are grateful for each day, our brain starts to look for things we are grateful for and it can change the brain chemistry AND we will still feel hard things.
