#repost @the_cellar_table I left Friuli today for Alto Adige, but I just couldn't get some of the fantastic wines I recently tasted there off of my mind. The last time I tasted the Rosso dott. Palazzolo from Ronco del Gnemiz, it demanded more time in the cellar, but tonight, it's just starting blossom with more complexities than imagined. Dried citrus peels, crushed rocks, and floral undergrowth give way to plum sauce, wild blueberries, and sweet sage as 2018 Dott. Palazzolo Rosso slowly comes to life. This is deeply textural, almost creamy, and savory, with a sapidity that saturates, mixing tart wild berries and exotic spices that give way to nuances cocoa. Inner violets, black currants, and hints of licorice linger impossibly long through the finish, along adolescent tannins that are just starting to soften. The Dott.
