Why “Changing Your Mindset” Isn’t Working (And What To Do Instead) Everybody talks about “changing your mindset”... But what does that actually mean and how do you do it? Firstly - It’s not as simple as just changing the way you think. You can’t cover up negative thoughts with positive thoughts. You’ve probably already tried this, right? You’re having a bad day, you try to tell yourself to be positive but no matter how much you try to change your internal talk, you just can’t. That, by the way, is totally normal. And no, you’re not failing at personal development. Changing your mindset is actually a difficult thing to do. That’s why at SMP, we have a neuropsych working on our team. Because your brain is complicated and anyone who says “just shout your affirmations in the mirror” doesn’t actually understand how they work. This is what you need to understand to create the internal change you want - #1: Mindfulness This is when you notice what your thoughts are, How they feel, What you are sensing. This is just listening to your thoughts And not trying to change them. #2 Mindstate This is your body and your emotions, which is your nervous system. It’s about how you respond to relationships, And how you react to certain situations. #3: Mindset This is a word that everyone knows but doesn’t really understand. Mindset is your thoughts and your choices. #4: Mindsight This is your vision and your spirit. The woman you can see in your head, Who you might not know how to create, But she’s as clear in your mindsight as the phone in your hand right now :) So how do you change your mind? Everyone can stand in the mirror and say affirmations hoping they’ll change their mindset. But not everyone can sit with their mind and listen to it... Even when it’s uncomfortable and difficult.
