Happy 100th birthday to my grandmother Shirley 💛. Words couldn’t possibly explain how influential you have been in my life. My greatest teacher, and the woman I admire most in this world. Every conversation with you leaves me pensive, and re assessing the ways I think about my life. You are a thinker through and through. And because of you, so am I. Funny, I thought the hours of filming you over the past decade was to record your story; but in reality I got to know you more intimately than I could have ever imagined through that process, and that’s what it was all about all along. I would say she’ll never see this but that just ain’t true. She’s on Instagram, she’s beating you at chess, she’s stealing your grandpas heart. Here she is in an outfit I designed for her, from a campaign I shot her for in 2019, standing in front of photographs of her mother Pearl (Latvia 1820’s) and all of her loved ones from another time and place.
