ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED is Laura Poitras’ new film exploring the life of our founder Nan Goldin and the story of our direct action group, PAIN. It’s been an honor to have PAIN’s story told by one of the great filmmakers of our time. We are humbled by the response the film has already received in Venice, Telluride, and Toronto. This film really reaches people because of Nan’s ability to talk openly about topics usually kept secret in our society.
As we prepare for the film’s debut in our hometown at #nyff on October 7th, we are reminded of the tireless work done by many local organizers and groups we hold dear— @vocalnewyork, @housingworks, @truthpharm , @cornerproject, and all of those who have fought to open the nation’s first two Overdose Prevention Centers, which have proven themselves to be a vital resource for New Yorkers who use drugs.
We want to make the most of this moment. As the @endoverdoseny coalition said at the Governor’s Office on International Overdose Awareness Day, Kathy Hochul could authorize OPCs across New York State TODAY—but she lacks the political will.
12 New Yorkers die EVERY DAY from preventable overdoses. Upstate New Yorkers need and deserve OPCs as much as we do here in NYC. Every single overdose death is a policy failure. We urge our followers and supporters to join us in demanding that Governor Hochul authorize Overdose Prevention Centers across New York State now! Phone number & info on the last slide.
