Let's be real, it's not that hard to use someone's correct name and pronouns. It's just basic respect. But all too often, people refuse to do it because they don't understand or care about the impact it has on trans people. It's not about inconvenience or a learning curve, it's about treating others with the same level of respect you'd want for yourself. And here's the thing: this hypocrisy is particularly frustrating given how much emphasis is placed on respecting other marginalized communities. Why is it okay to punch down on trans folks? Why is it okay to dehumanize us and treat us as less than human? It's not, plain and simple. So let's all take a moment to reflect on how we treat trans folks.
