FLEXIBILITY
If flexibility is someones goal, it is often associated with using greater ranges of motion at whatever they do. This means that it is a means to a purpose, not a purpose itself.
Consequently, the next question is how to get flexible in a way that allows me to use my flexibility at whatever I want to use it for?
When using flexibility in any sports discipline or even everyday life, there are mostly loads included. This means that you are not just passively moving through the specific range of motion, but you have to e.g. carry your body weight - at least parts of it - and sometimes even extra resistance of e.g. an opponent.
This means that we dont only need to get flexible (e.g. by stretching passively), but also strong in these positions.
As a result, a proper method of working on flexibility is to treat it like a strength practice.
Also, using loads when stretching in a progressive manner will lead to much greater adaptation of the muscle system. If these ranges are used in practice afterwards, the achieved level of mobility will automatically be maintained without any further direct work.
To add to this last statement, I will take myself as an example: I worked on the mobility demonstrated above during the last years using the above mentioned method. Today, the achieved level of mobility is almost completly maintained without working on most of the movements for more than half a year now.
If you are a beginner and want me to coach you at anything regarding strength and mobility, send me a dm.
Have a great week.
