Step inside Magdalena Abakanowicz's world of woven sculptures in 'Every Tangle of Thread and Rope', at Tate Modern until May 2023. 🧶
#MagdalenaAbakanowicz was born in 1930 in Poland and grew up during the Second World War. Living in Poland under the Communist regime, she dedicated herself fully to her career as a sculptor. She exhibited around the world, bringing her monumental, fibrous forms into new relationships or ‘situations’ – paving the way for the installation art of today.
Tate Modern's exhibition explores the transformative period in which Abakanowicz's textile sculptures came off the wall and into the gallery space. In the late 1960s she brought natural fibres to the attention of the art world. Her environmental attitudes, such as her wish to work and live in harmony with nature, feel particularly timely today. 🍃
Book your ticket today and weave your way through the artist's fibrous sculptural forest. Members visit free (no need to book!). 🧡
