📍 BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON NATIONAL PARK
The first pic is me having an “Oh $h!t” moment. One of many similar moments brought on by the great views at this NP!
PROS of this park:
💫 Not as crowded as some of the more popular national parks.
💫 Smaller than other parks, so you can see a lot in one day.
💫 Countless jaw dropping views throughout the park.
A FEW SUGGESTIONS:
1. If you can snag a permit to do one of the adventurous hikes down to the bottom of the Canyon, do it! Their most popular hike requires a permit! These are issued out the day before at the visitor center at 3pm.
2. Do the South Rim Drive! It’s seven miles one way. There are several view points along the route. Except for the last view point, these are mostly a few to several hundred yards. They all have great views, but my favs were Gunnison, Painted Wall, Cedar and the very last one.
3. Do the Warner Point Trail!! This has the last viewpoint on the South Rim Drive. It’s a 1.5 mile out and back hike with insane views at the turn around spot.
4. Take the very winding, but very beautiful, East Portal Road down to the bottom of the Canyon. A picnic area awaits with closer up views of the emerald green river and surrounding mountains.
