Introducing Team Mac! ❤️ __________________________________________ Some bummer news & an ask to share: In late 2022 my dad was diagnosed with ALS, a disease that causes nerve cells to break down and muscles to lose function. It’s rare, fatal, and at present, incurable. This has been an extraordinarily difficult time for my family. My dad is our heart & soul, our sense of humor, and our grounding force. He is my and SO many others’ favorite person to talk to. Watching him and my mom battle this disease- even with the heaps of grace and tenderness they’ve displayed- has been devastating. From the beginning, the ALS Foundation has been a tremendous help. It has educated us, connected us with other affected families, and provided several adaptive gadgets (the grandkids especially love the “robot spoon”). They’ve given my dad some comfort and preserved some quality of life. They’ve equipped us— my mom especially— to be able to care for him and ourselves. We’re participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS Eastern Iowa this weekend to raise a little money & awareness for the ALS Foundation. In addition to giving thousands of families the kind of invaluable help I described, they are also leading the search for new treatments and, hopefully, a cure.
