Hair Myths Part 4! 💁🏼‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Myth ➀: Hair grows faster when it's cut - TRUE & FALSE! When your hair splits at the ends it can no longer grow down but it can spilt up & break off. Be consistent with your haircuts to trim split ends. Your hair won’t grow faster because you cut it, but you will be able to grow hair longer because the ends are not split. ⁣ ⁣ If you’re thinking about cutting your hair at home I want you to imagine this. If you were going to cut down a tree would you use an ax or a chainsaw? If you used an ax you'll have jagged lines but if you use a chainsaw you’d have a clean cut. Cutting your hair at home with a pair of scissors from your junk drawer is like cutting a tree down with an ax. You’ll have jagged ends & your hair won’t grow properly after that. I recommend seeing your stylist every 2.5-3 months for a haircut! So YES, the answer to getting longer hair is actually cutting it!⁣ ⁣ Myth ➁: Store bought products vs salon products - are they just as good? You may notice some similarities when looking at the ingredients labels of your drugstore and salon products. Although they have similar ingredients it comes down to the concentration of these ingredients. ⁣ ⁣ Drugstore shampoo won't have the same high level concentration of the essential ingredients for your hair. Look at it like this, if salon products were the purest batch of extra virgin olive oil (ya know the $30 bottle at whole foods) while the drugstore products are more like vegetable oil or canola oil - they're still oil, just a lower quality. ⁣ ⁣ Myth ➂: Hot tools can burn off toner - YES! Let me say this, all heated styling products can cause hair colors to change/fade. If your shower is scorching hot or if your blow dryer is on the highest setting, this can cause your toner/color to fade. Try turning down the water temp when you wash your hair (you can keep it warm for your body!) try air drying or heatless styles as much as possible and most importantly, TURN DOWN THE FLAT IRON.
