These photos i took of Burt Reynolds years ago been on my mind heavy lately. I guess because they remind me a lot of my late grandpa. His poise, charisma and presence was so overwhelming even at his age it demanded respect.
Which leads me to the story of how i even got to capture this image in the first place. When i first started shooting at the Steve show, we were subject to shooting ONLY in the audio booth. High up in the audience to the side. While i got to connect with @eddiejiujitsu the location was not prime for photography and only with a 70-200 lens could you get somewhat usable images. After a couple of shoots i wondered how i could get on the show floor. I asked around and everyone(errybody) was skeptical due to the high action nature of the 4 production cameras that were already down there. After talking to @mr.terelle.et.johnson and @mstpi a couple of times they let me know that it would be doable, i just had to show up two hours earlier to catch the camera meetings. A few early mornings and long trips down Van Ness and i did it. I was down there rubbing shoulders with award winning cameramen, able to ask even more questions and soak up game during the breaks. Everyone was helpful but big shoutout to KP, Kenny Patterson, for all of the knowledge and insight through those seasons. And a big thank you to Tanya and Terrelle for instilling trust in me, cuz one thing i was not gon do was muck up their show lol.
So yea, the images got better, connections deeper and i wouldn’t have it any other way. When i think back it always reminds me to speak up and ask for what you want, regardless of how daunting it may seem.
RIP Burt & RIP Pop 🕊🕊
