SHARING SOME OF our Diwali celebrations - slightly more low key this year but blessed to have @payalpoppins here this year. I ended up hosting and this meant that I got to choose the menu! I did choose a healthier menu but we did make up for it with lots of sweets!
We started with puff pastry samosas followed by a colourful spread of:
Wild salmon tikka
@kricketlondon inspired pumpkin Makhani
Pomegranate raita
Watermelon radish kachumber
@chefvineet wild mushroom biryani
Mum made Shrikhand and aunt sent ghugra and paan masala chocolate!
Diwali is a celebration for many South Asians including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. For Jains, Diwali is the day that the last Thirthankara Mahavir attained Nirvana or complete enlightenment. In the same way as other faiths, we celebrate finding the light in the darkness and hope over adversity. Whilst my family are not religious, and I’m more of an agnostic, these cultural celebrations are a part of me. I love the clothes and food and being with family. For us this year, we need the hope and lightness more than ever. Wishing you all a Happy Diwali and a prosperous, peaceful and abundant New Year tomorrow. Eclipse season is here!
