WE DID IT. We raised and distributed $1,267,000 for teachers in three weeks. 🎉🎉 Yes, that’s over 2500 teachers who received $500 grants to buy supplies, curriculum, and classroom necessities. But that’s *conservatively* over 50,000 impacted students. That’s assuming all 2,534 teachers have reasonable class sizes, which they don’t. SO MANY TEACHERS said they are going to use the money for food and hygiene products for their students. So many children don’t come to school with what they need, including a snack or a toothbrush to use at home. Teachers are not just educating about history, science, and language arts, they on the front lines of childhood hunger, neglect, abuse, and trauma. If we care about children like we say we do, we have to care about teachers. Over the past weeks, we’ve shared stories of a teacher who didn’t have the science supplies they needed because they couldn’t work their second job to earn the money to buy the supplies due to a battle with long Covid. We heard from a teacher with well over 40 students in their class and not nearly enough desks. They were using the grant to buy places for kids to sit. One teacher said many of her students didn’t have their own blanket and pillow at home, and they wanted to make sure they did. These stories are not unique. But the exodus from the teaching profession is. Hopefully, this will temporarily help stop hemorrhage while we get to work making needed and necessary changes, including voting for candidates who support teachers. We have to care about kids. And that means we have to care about teachers. Thank you for being the change. ❤️❤️❤️
