@clobaremoneycoach Is not concerned with paying off her student loans early. Instead, I focus on paying the minimum and investing the rest. Why? Because my student loan interest rate is SO low! It’s sitting at 3.54%. That’s almost free money! When I started this journey, I was overly concerned with being debt free at all costs. I thought it was the ultimate ticket to financial wellness, but as I continued to learn about money and wealth building I realized— being debt free at all costs isn’t necessarily the best path for building wealth. Investing early and often is. Now— this isn’t to shit on people who focus on being debt free. That’s still an awesome goal especially if you feel anxious, or worried, or your debt keeps you up at night. It all depends on your risk preference. For me— I’m fine with knowing I have a student loan payment for the next few years because I know if something happens, my big ole emergency fund will have me covered for the foreseeable future. I’d much rather take the risk of having student loan debt, than risk missing out on prime years of investing. The stock market on average, over the last 100 years, has returned about 10% a year. When adjusted for inflation, it’s about 7-8% a year, on average (remember, AVERAGE, not actual annual returns). If I focused on putting all my money on paying off my debt, I’d only be earning 3.54% by paying it off early. If I invest? I’m earning between 7-8%. Why would I miss out on 3-4% of growth every year? The numbers work in favor of investing instead, which is why I prioritize investing over paying off my debt early. What’s your risk preference? Are you focusing on prioritizing your debt or are you investing instead? #financial #debtfreeclutterfree #learntoinvest #fintok #fintoks #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney
