I've been excitedly waiting for when Enceladus would begin to read and it's happening! A whole new world has opened up to her, and the questions don't stop! Since beginning Kindergarten in September, it's been slowly progressing, but in the last few weeks it all started to click and move to the next level. She talks her teacher into letting her bring home school books when she finishes one so she can proudly read it to us. She's curious about every word. She gets frustrated when she can't sound out a word. After learning a word she will get out her notebook and write it out multiple times. Not to get too much mush, but as her Mom, it might be one of the most joyful, rewarding journeys I've ever been a part of. And its just beginning. And I'm going to get to experience this 2 more magical times. 💜
I love to read. As a girl, I would spend hours each week in the local bookstore. My dad would drop me off at the mall bookstore (Waldenbooks!), head across the mall to the baseball card shop where he would hang out with his buddies, and then come back for me. I spent so many evenings sitting alone in that bookstore, escaping into written adventures. The store employees never questioned why this young girl was always sitting in the back of the store with a pile of books, instead they would smile and nod when I entered the store. They were also probably okay with it because when my dad would pick me up, I would always have a handful of books for him to buy, to last me for the next week.
So this morning Enceladus and I shared that experience together, we took the bus to a bookstore, and lazily sat in the aisle reading books. I sat next to her, reading my own book, helping her sound out words in her book, and when she finished, she went to another aisle to find the next one, and repeat. It was a moment. 💜
