🖤BLACK WOMEN ARE GIFTS TO THIS WORLD🖤 *SWIPE* A week ago I received the “Trailblazer Award” at the Dope Black Girls brunch hosted by @blackgirlsvote (BGV) in partnership with @thecolorvision . It’s interesting to learn more about why folks really think you’re honor worthy. It helps you understand what other people believe your contributions are. In alignment with BGV’s mission, THIS award was for my commitment to social action—on multiple fronts, and I truly appreciate it. When civic engagement and advancing racial equity have truly been your life’s work, it’s nice to NOT be thought of as a “one trick pony” as some say, because one thing you’ve done garners more media attention than another. I love the CROWN Act! However, I am AS proud of leading the organizing efforts to codify the country’s first “Office of African American Affairs” as I am of conceptualizing and leading the CROWN Act movement, and being the Black engagement consultant for the DNC during the midterm resulting in the largest CBC ever, and being an adjunct professor, and training on organizing & public policy making for many entities, and serving Nationally for @dstinc1913 Sorority and Chairing the Democratic Party’s African American Leadership Council for many years, and chartering a chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. +++. ALL of that and much more PREDATES the CROWN Act—which is in part how I was able to pull it off. This isn’t a “receipts” post. It’s simply an example of the dopeness of Black women! They complied a profile and video montage for all 5 honorees and mine included stuff I hadn’t even seen. Sistas are gonna remind you of your dopeness & I love us for it! I am thankful God made me a Black woman. I can’t imagine life without us! We are truly like no other.
