The “menopause belly” is getting a bad rap these days. It’s so disheartening to read how we are being shamed into and sold a hurtful narrative about our changing bodies.
This has triggered my own love/hate relationship with my belly as I’ve journeyed through womanhood. I am slowly accepting my body is meant to change as I age. Instead of blaming my body for it’s inadequacies, I am trying to build a more compassionate relationship with my body and appreciate the amazing things it can do for me
Our bodies, our thoughts and our emotions are all connected. When we have a negative attitude towards a body part –we don’t like the way that body part has changed so we speak unkindly about that body part or ignore it or create a story around it.
Over time our relationship with that body part is impacted having a knock on effect in our confidence, how we show up in the world, in our relationships and in the bedroom.
Consider instead how are you caring for that part of your body right now? Are you listening to its cues for nourishment, rest, movement and pleasure? How can you regard your whole body with the mutual respect, gratitude and trust of a true friend?
