“Translating science without losing soul"—was one of the paragraph headings in this recent interview I did with @drmirhom for Psychiatric Times, a highly respected publication in our field. It was a real honor to be featured in their 40th anniversary edition. I’m often asked about my journey into what’s now being called “media psychiatry”—a path that, when I started nearly two decades ago, didn’t even have a name. Since then, I’ve given close to 2,000 media interviews—across major networks, primetime specials, and top publications. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to meet and collaborate with some truly incredible people. Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. One of the ongoing challenges has been staying true to the science while steering clear of sensationalism, misinformation, oversimplification, and clickbait. As I shared with Dr. Mena, I’ve likely turned down as many—if not more—media opportunities than I’ve accepted, for exactly this reason. I also had the chance to speak about the inspiration behind Practical Optimism. There was so much more to say (hello, word count limits!), but I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to share a glimpse of the work and the mission that continues to drive it. Humbled and honored to be featured by my friend and colleague. #optimism #practicaloptimism
