This is my favorite picture of me with Meme. It’s from my 5th birthday; Papa threw out the first pitch. This photo is the embodiment of comfort: I’m in her lap, her arms around me, blankie in hand, wearing a sundress and crown of stars (appropriate ballgame attire), sitting just in the shade for a sunny day game at Jacobs Field, smiles on our faces, and a 97% chance we got ice cream in the fifth inning. She was a hugger and a comforter. The more I write, the more I cry (I get that from her; the very first picture of the two of us, I’m in her arms and she’s in full tears), so instead: I love you, Meme, bushel and a peck—a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. ♥️
