Here's EXACTLY why your feet should be hip-width apart and parallel to each other in Urdhva Dhanurasana: some people said so. That's it. If that's enough reason for you, well, there you go. If not, experiment with taking your feet as wide as the mat and turning your feet slightly outward. Changing the width of your feet and thighs does not compress your lower back. This is a straw man argument and has no real basis in biomechanics. GOING TOO FAR in your backbends is what compresses the lower back. FEET HIP-WIDTH APART AND PARALLEL IS STILL a good starting position for students because it's an easy-to-identify baseline. AND, it is a good position to remain in for students that have mobile hip-flexors and quads. But, taking the feet wider is usually preferable for students with more restricted mobility. TAKE THE TIME TO EXPERIMENT AND SEE WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU.
